Hemorrhoids are essentially enlarged veins in the perianal area. They can become quite painful, especially when they become thrombosed (clotted). We can often treat them in the office, although they do sometimes need a procedure in the operating room.

These often first come to attention when they become infected. The first step in treatment is to get the infection resolved. Further surgery may then be indicated to prevent future infections.
